Footballer James McClean has bought medical personal protection equipment for a GP surgery in Derry.
Republic of Ireland winger McClean, whose wife Erin is a nurse, confirmed he had managed to secure 400 disposable gloves, 100 gowns, five face shields, 10 containers of sanitiser and 100 facemasks.
The equipment which is currently in short supply across the world, is now on its way to the Oakleaf Medical Practice in Great James Street in his home city.
The surgery, which has seven doctors, will be able to use the equipment when examining patients whose queries cannot be dealt with remotely.
He said: "Just regarding the PPE equipment, I managed to buy as much equipment as I could in terms of stock and fast track delivery on Amazon to Dr Doohan at Great James Street Medical Practice."
His actions prompted praise on social media.
Shauna Doherty, said: "When James McClean sends word that PPE is on its way to Great James Street - Derry is so lucky to call him and Erin a son and daughter of the city. Thank you so much."
Last month Stoke City star McClean made a large donation to provide vital supplies for people in his native city.
He said: "We've made a donation towards nappies, medicines, toilet roll, baby supplies, cleaning products etc which will be made into hampers and given out at the 'Corned Beef Tin', the building in the Creggan area, over the next few days when the full stock is brought in. It's a small gesture but one that I hope can go a long way in helping.
"Hopefully this virus is gone soon and people can get on with their lives as normal but for now I hope everyone stays safe and well."
