Coronavirus: Italian tenor stuns quarantined neighbours with 'Nessun Dorma' performance from balcony

As the coronavirus quarantine continues in Italy, a tenor has been filmed stunning his neighbours in Florence with a performance from his balcony.

According to the tweeted video that is now doing the rounds on social media, Maurizio Marchini “wanted to do something to spread joy amid all the sadness so [he] serenaded the entire town”.

Marchini can be seen performing a rendition of “Nessun Dorma”, the aria most synonymous with Luciano Pavarotti.

Italy is the worst country to be affected by the coronavirus pandemic, with more than 17,000 confirmed cases and a death toll of approximately 1,260.

After Italian citizens were instructed to go into lockdown, many videos circulated social media showing people singing and dancing in an attempt to keep morale high.

One such video shows an unseen person singing Lewis Capaldi’s hit song “Someone You Loved”. After the clip was brought to the Brit Award-winning star’s attention, he tweeted his appreciation and told the country to “stay safe”.

Spain has become the second country in Europe to impose a nationwide lockdown as part of its effort to slow the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
