Coronavirus: Irish singer leaves Diamond Princess cruise ship for quarantine in Australia

Irish singer Rebecca Harkin has been evacuated from the Coronavirus-stricken Diamond Princess and is now in quarantine in Australia.

Rebecca and her partner were working as musicians on the ship and were evacuated to Australia along with many others who had been onboard.

They will spend two weeks in quarantine in Darwin.

She revealed that they are 'both healthy and safe'.

The Diamond Princess, which carried almost 4,000 passengers and crew when it began its voyage, has been under quarantine since earlier this month.

The ship has seen more than 620 cases of Coronavirus and is the largest cluster of cases outside China, reports the Irish Mirror.

She posted on Facebook: "Thank you so much for all your lovely messages and prayers these last few weeks.

"As many of you knew my partner and I were musicians on board the Diamond Princess Ship in Japan.

"I am now in Australia with my partner and we are both healthy and safe.

"We are getting so well looked after in Darwin along with all the other evacuees.

"We are both so so thankful for the amazing team here.

"They are so caring, friendly & understanding.

"They have been doing so much to make us comfortable.

"I cannot thank them enough.

"For now, it’s 2 weeks of sunshine & unwinding after the crisis. "
