Coronavirus Ireland: Gardai blast parents after teen has asthma attack while hanging out with pal who's waiting for COVID-19 test

Overworked Gardai have blasted parents who allow their kids to go out in gangs after a teenager hanging around with a youth who's awaiting COVID-19 test results had a severe asthma attack.

The emergency services are urging parents to make sure their children self-isolate, after one youth inadvertently put their friends at risk of coronavirus infection today.

Gardai were at hand to assist a HSE ambulance who were called to after one of five youths got into severe breathing difficulties.

The youth was suffering an asthma attack while another was meant to be in self-isolation while waiting for COVID-19 test results.

The gardai issued a stark warning to the parents not watching their children, telling them to "step up to the mark" in a strongly worded tweet.

They added: "Your responsibility. We are busy enough!"

There have been numerous reports of people ignoring Public Health advice to practice social distancing amid the growing coronavirus pandemic that has claimed thousands of lives.

The post got a lot of comments from a frustrated public which is growing tired of seeing people flouting the advice of health and emergency workers to self isolate.

One person wrote: "This is ridiculous, where at the parents? Particularly of the one that is supposed to be self-isolating and therefore presumably has symptoms. How many has he/she possibly infected?"

Another said: "We as society have to take self responsibility for ourselves and family members.

"Sending in the Gardai or Army won’t change much as those resources believe we are needed as it is to do the job supporting medical teams etc. Their role is not baby sitting us. That’s our job !!!!"

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live confirmed the incident and said"the purpose of the social media post was for the general public to heed the advice provided".
