Coronavirus Ireland: Website MyGov.ie has brilliant message for those who keep confusing them for a government site

A website being confused for an official government site has made a brilliant message to greet people who are in the wrong place.

Hundreds of people a day are searching for the government's social welfare payments sign-up and ending up on mygov.ie.

But mygov.ie - despite wrongly being said in an official meeting - is not the correct url these people are looking for.

Instead you should be heading to gov.ie or mygovid.ie where you will be able to access government services here in Ireland.

And the domain owner of mygov.ie has left a helpful, and funny, message on their landing page to send you in the right direction.

It says: "This is not the web site you need for applying for social welfare payments. For that you should go to this government site instead."

They said that they're as "surprised and annoyed" as you are that the website address was announced incorrenctly.

Once you do get to the correct website, MyGovID is a single account that lets you use services from many government departments in Ireland.

Having a single account means you only have to sign up once and you only have to remember one password.

This allows you access to welfare payments, setting up your NCT and a load more government services.
