Coronavirus Ireland update: Government says list of essential workers will be published on Saturday

The Government has confirmed that a full list of essential workers will be made available on Saturday.

It comes after Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced Ireland is now in full lockdown as all non-essential trips are banned for two weeks.

The measures will begin at midnight tonight, and stay in place until Easter Sunday, April 12.

The only exceptions to this ban are for travelling to essential work, to shop for food or household goods, for healthcare appointments, and for vital family reasons.

People will also be allowed out for brief exercise within 2km of their own home, as well as for farming purposes and food production. All public gatherings outside a family household or single unit have also now been prohibited.

However a full list of essential workers has still not been published, and the government has now announced it will not be made available until Saturday.

A spokesperson said: "The full list of essential workers will be published as early as possible on Saturday.

"In the interim, the Government advice for businesses and services which consider themselves essential service, is to remain open, pending publication of the list."

The news was confirmed at a media briefing held by the Government in Dublin this evening.

The Taoiseach, Health Minister Simon Harris and Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan addressed reporters at the press conference.
