Coronavirus Ireland update as two more people die and 23 new cases are confirmed

A further two people have died from Covid-19 in Ireland, while 23 new cases have been confirmed.

The Department of Health has announced that the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has today been informed that a further two people have died of Covid-19.

There has now been a total of 1,746 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland.

The HPSC has also been notified of 23 newly confirmed cases of Covid-19.

There are now a total of 25,611 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland, after one case was denotified.

The HSE said it is working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread.

On Friday evening, 25 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed - the highest number since the middle of last month.

Newly appointed Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has strongly appealed to those going out this weekend to maintain social distancing.

The appeal comes amid increasing concern about a rise in the number of new confirmed cases of Covid-19, particularly among younger people.
