Coronavirus Ireland: Three Covid-19 cases confirmed in a week at Clare school as fears grow

Three Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in the space of just a week in small Clare school.

The first case was notified to parents in an urgent letter sent on September 25, while the most recent infection was confirmed on September 30.

A letter from the HSE said that all close contacts of the confirmed cases have been informed.

The school continues to operate as normal for now.

Guidelines from health officials state that any students who are not deemed to be close contacts do not need to take a test, and can continue to attend class.

However parents were warned that any other children who develop symptoms of Covid-19 must restrict their movements, and contact their GPs.

It comes after it emerged earlier this week that a large Meath school with over 1,000 students also confirmed a Covid-19 case.

A child at St Peter's College in Dunboyne tested positive for coronavirus, the school confirmed.

The school currently has approximately 1,150 students enrolled.

School officials said that they had been notified of the positive test on Monday morning.

They insisted all close contacts of the confirmed case had been identified and have since been informed.

Principal Deirdre Maye told parents and guardians that there had been no overlap between year groups on the school campus, and that students in the affected year group could contact her for advice.

The school added that all HSE advice has been followed since the case was confirmed.
