Coronavirus Ireland: Teresa Mannion shares hilarious flag with message from front-line workers

RTE reporter Teresa Mannion has shared a hilarious flag telling people not to make unnecessary journeys during the coronavirus lockdown.

Three front-line healthcare workers were pictured holding the tri-colour with Ms Mannion's face on it and the text: "We don't make unnecessary journeys."

The journalist embraced the snap which made reference to her viral weather report in 2015 in which she urged the public to stay indoors.

She battled the ferocious winds of Storm Desmond in while reporting live for RTE News.

When quoting advice from the gardai she said: "Don't make unnecessary journeys. Don't take risks on treacherous roads."

The report took the internet by storm, after the original video produced a huge reaction online with impressions, photoshopped images, and even a dance remix being created.

In December 2015, she told the Herald: "I was in a bubble of gale-force winds and heavy rain. I had my ear piece in and turned up to full volume so that I could hear the studio in Dublin, and I was being pulled this way and that.

"Visually, I think the message could not have been clearer in terms of telling people how treacherous it was to be out in the storm.

"I knew that I was carrying a very important message and it was very important to drive it home."

The original video has been shared thousands of times on social media since the report was first broadcast.

Mannion added: "I have never experienced the Twitter machine in operation like that before.

"The phone has not stopped ringing and I have acquired thousands of followers out of nowhere.

"For the crew and I, physically that was one of the toughest weather reports."
