Coronavirus Ireland: Ten more deaths in north bring Covid-19 death toll on island to 499

A further 10 people have died in Northern Ireland due to coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths to 134.

The Covid-19 death toll for the island of Ireland now stands at 499.

The latest figures from the North's Public Health Agency also show a rise in positive cases of 85.

A total 1,967 of people are confirmed to have the virus in Northern Ireland as of today, Belfast Live reports.

Since yesterday 462 tests have been carried out in the region.

It comes after it was announced on Monday night that 31 more people have tragically died from the killer bug in the Republic.

In addition, 527 new cases were reported by Irish labs while 465 cases were confirmed by German laboratories.

The cases returned from Germany were backlogged tests taken in previous weeks.

The latest figures bring the death toll in the Republic to 365 and the total number of cases to 10,647.

Out of the deaths reported at a Department of Health briefing on Monday evening, 18 were women and 13 were men.

There were 26 deaths in the east, three in the north-west, one in the south and one in the west.

The median age of the deceased was 82. 25 of those who passed away had underlying health conditions.
