Coronavirus Ireland: Supermac's offers free meals to emergency services during 'challenging time'

Supermac's, the Irish fast food chain, is offering free meals to the emergency services during the coronavirus crisis.

The firm said in a statement this afternoon: "Supermac’s will provide free meals to members of the emergency services in recognition and appreciation of the effort that is being made by each and every one of them at this challenging time."

When queried by the Irish Mirror, the company added that the offer "has no deadline" and "will be assessed on an ongoing basis".

Circle K earlier this week said it is offering free hot drinks to frontline HSE staff and members of the emergency services.

Other countries such as France have shut down restaurants, but a full lockdown is yet to be put in place in Ireland. However, many have closed voluntarily.

Yesterday, Minister for Health Simon Harris hit out at "insulting" videos of packed pubs and hazmat suit fancy dress parties in Dublin city centre.

And today Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said he "may seek enforcement powers" from the Dail and Seanad to close pubs and clubs.

There have been 129 cases of Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland as of 5pm on Sunday, March 15, with two people confirmed dead.
