Strict new restrictions could be put in place for Dublin if cases continue to rapidly increase according to reports emerging this morning.
Dubs, as well as those in Limerick, are facing a potential ban on visiting other people's houses if the Covid-19 spike does not begin to fall by the weekend.
This rule would be something similar to what was introduced in Glasgow where house gatherings are seen as a hotbed for the virus.
Crunching numbers for yesterday, there was 307 new cases with Dublin accounting for 182 or nearly 60% of these high figures.
Similar to Glasgow, most of the cases in the capital are understood to be coming in the form of home outbreaks from parties and large gatherings with conditions in pubs and restaurants actually working well for Dublin.
But despite this and the fact that cabinet agreed to open all pubs on September 21, the huge surge in cases in Dublin could now throw pubs' reopening date into doubt for the capital also.
Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn again urged the public not to let their guard down.
He said: “I urge everyone to follow the public health advice and keep your distance.
"Do not underestimate the risks associated with any of your interactions, including with your family, friends or work colleagues.
"Now is not a time to let down your guard – assume that you or those that you meet may be infectious and act accordingly.”
The number of confirmed cases since the outbreak began has now soared past 30,000.
According to the latest figures from the HSPC, Dublin accounted for 791 of the 1,672 cases reported nationally in the last 14 days up to and including last Sunday.
