Coronavirus Ireland: Sinead O'Connor's inspiring words about Irish resilience amid Covid-19 crisis

Sinead O'Connor is confident Ireland will rebuild following the coronavirus pandemic because "it's in our blood".

The Nothing Compares 2 U singer believes the country is "blessed" to have so many non-Irish living here to help out.

The mum-of-four referenced moments in the past where the Irish people had to be resilient when speaking of her confidence that the nation will prevail after the Covid-19 crisis.

She said: “No one knows how long this is going to go on or what’s going to happen to Ireland in the next few months.

“But if there was something I would say to everyone in Ireland it’s that, whatever happens, I know the Irish people are capable of rebuilding Ireland because we have done it several times in our history, the Famine, 1916, it’s in our blood.

“We are also blessed now to have people from other countries to help, people who are rebuilding their lives by coming here. That’s a blessing."

The 53-year-old did say she has been "as freaked out as everybody else" by sitting at home watching the daily updates on the virus.

And although she admitted being scared when hearing the Army was going to take over, she joked how she thought that would be "sexy".

She told the Irish Sun: “A friend of mine was freaking me out, ringing to tell me the Army were going to take over, and that was really scaring me.

"Though I think it would be kind of sexy if the Army took over, because they would be so hot in their uniforms."

The Dubliner, who previously expressed she was a Sinn Fein supporter, also spoke of her praise for Taoiseach Leo Varadkar's address to the nation.

Sinead said: "I liked how Leo spoke to young people.

"No one ever bothers to speak to young people in this country. He did it because he’s young at heart himself."
