Coronavirus Ireland: Simon Harris shares special Mother's Day message to mums in the health service

Minister for Health Simon Harris has shared a special Mother's Day message to mums working on the frontline in the fight against coronavirus.

Thousands of mums are currently working throughout Ireland's healthcare services and as well as in other essential services such as retail.

It comes as COVID-19 continues to sweep through the country, with 102 new cases of the virus confirmed last night.

It brings the total number of cases in the Republic of Ireland to 785 - and one in four of these are healthcare workers.

And Health Minister Simon Harris has paid tribute to the heroic workers who are currently tackling the killer bug head-on.

He also urged everyone to "keep our distance" as social distancing measures remain as important as ever.

He wrote on Twitter: "Happy Mother’s Day to all mums -a Mother’s Day unlike any other.

"We must keep our distance but that doesn’t mean we can’t show our appreciation.

"Today I am particularly thinking of all the mum’s on the frontline in the fight against #coronavirus. We are indebted to you all."
