Coronavirus Ireland: Second person under age of 25 dies from Covid-19 in Republic

A second person under the age of 25 has died from the coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland, new data shows.

Figures from the Health Surveillance Protection Centre on Sunday revealed that a patient aged between 15 and 24 has passed away from Covid-19.

This is the second case in this age bracket, following the death of a 23-year-old which was announced on April 15.

However, no details about these cases have been released so it is unknown whether they had underlying conditions or not.

The health chiefs have also not revealed the gender or location of the two youngest deaths linked to the virus in Ireland.

Three people between the ages of 25 and 34 have also passed away after being diagnosed with the infection.

The disease has also claimed the lives of nine people in the 35-44 age bracket, and a further 17 aged between 45 and 54.

And 38 patients between 55 and 64 lost their lives due to the coronavirus.

More than 90% of the country's fatalities have been with cases of people aged 65 or over. These account for 790 out of the 859 deaths which were recorded by the HSPC as of midnight on April 23.
