Coronavirus Ireland: Ruby Walsh doesn't think Irish sport will return until at least June

Legendary jockey Ruby Walsh thinks that sport in Ireland isn't going to return until the summer at the very least.

Walsh has seen horse racing in Ireland, as well as every other sport, shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic - and he doesn't have high hopes for it returning anytime soon.

And the Paddy Power ambassador has made a worrying claim that sport as we know it may not return in Ireland until June or July.

With the Punchestown festival scheduled to kick off on April 28, the Kildare native reckons that it's all but postponed.

"Saying Punchestown hangs in the balance is being kind to it," Walsh said of the five-day festival to Paddy Power News.

"When you look around the world and when you look at how long it has taken other countries to come forward from Covid-19. I think you're looking at June, maybe July, before sport as we know it starts going again and normal life as we know it starts going again.

He added: "The national hunt season is over in England. I think it's as good as over here too. To me this year is gone.

"But it's not the worst thing that's going to happen to people over the coming weeks."
