Coronavirus Ireland RTE: Only eagle-eyed viewers spotted logo change as Miriam O'Callaghan presented The Late Late Show

Only a select few of eagle-eyed viewers noticed RTE's coronavirus logo change last night as Miriam O'Callaghan made history becoming the first female presenter of The Late Late Show.

In the top right-hand corner of the screen, the national broadcaster has now included the phrase, 'stay at home' underneath their RTE One and RTE Two logos.

With attention firmly fixed on the stand-in host for Ryan Tubridy, only a few people online were aware of the change.

Standing in for a sick Tubs, Miriam began the show in an emotional tone as she paid tribute to Ireland's frontline workers.

Fans of the show called her a "national treasure" as the applauded her presenting skills and for coming into the show in such tough circumstances given the coronavirus pandemic. As well as An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar's sombre announcement at 8.30.

One said: "#LateLateShow Love Miriam ...she's the nation's Mammy tonight...while Daddy Ryan is resting up.  Two national treasures.  Great to see our heroes on tonight too..God bless them all and those they represent."

Another added: "Everyone is cheering for Miriam right now, she is fantastic!"

A third tweeted: "I'm just putting it out there but I wouldn't have a problem if Miriam got comfortable in that chair."

A fourth continued: "She brought a tear to my eye with that intro to the #LateLateShow Incredibly powerful."

At the top of the show, Miriam also addressed Ryan Tubridy's illness. She confirmed that he was still suffering from a cough and she wished him a speedy recovery.

She said: “I’m here tonight because we all know Ryan has a cough, and I wish him well."

In a very busy show, Miriam was joined by the frontline of Ireland's health and caring staff as well as Minster for Health Simon Harris.

Singer and activist Hozier, rugby legend Brian O'Driscoll and actress Nicola Coughlan were also on the programme.

Mrs. Brown's Boys' stars Brendan O'Carroll and Jenny Gibney also chatted live from their home in Florida.
