Coronavirus Ireland: Person dies in Ireland after contracting Covid-19 abroad

Another person who contracted Covid-19 abroad before returning to Ireland has died.

It is the sixth 'imported' death in the country since the outbreak began.

The death has been revealed in a recent report from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

The fatality occurred between midnight last Wednesday and midnight last Saturday.

It has not been reported what the age of person was, what gender they were or if they had an underlying condition or not.

The report puts the death under the category "imported cases", which suggests the patient picked up the deadly bug abroad before returning here.

However, it does not state whether the person was Irish or a foreign national.

The report says there have been 430 imported cases in the Republic as of last Saturday night - this figure is lower than the 624 overall infections linked to travel abroad.
