Coronavirus Ireland: Online portal for public to register for COVID vaccine available from next month

The national online portal for the public to register for the COVID vaccine will be available from next month.

In two or three weeks, the website will allow members of the public to register for a COVID vaccine according to the Taoiseach.

Those registering will need to give their date of birth, PPS number and phone number to make an account on the HSE portal website.

It is recommended to register on a laptop or PC.

Micheál Martin said that the portal will be available to allow everyone to apply from mid-April or the third week of next month.

He said the aim was to have 80% of the population vaccinated by the end of June.

The Taoiseach said Ireland was now “into a different era” in comparison to the first three months of the year, when there was low volumes of vaccines.

He said: “The data is much stronger for the second quarter for April, May and June, and the target is to have 80% not just offered vaccination, but vaccinated by the end of June. That is the target.”

This comes after the shake-up to the vaccine roll-out as the Government has changed course to prioritise vaccination by age.

The change has angered groups like Gardai and teachers who were previously prioritised for vaccines.

But Taoiseach has said the new strategy will be simpler, as well as fairer.

He also said: “The change that has been announced is about getting the most vulnerable in our society, vaccinated as fast as we possibly can — and not have any barriers or obstacles in the way of getting mass vaccination done.

Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien also revealed some details of the plan.

He said he understands that people will be able to register with their date of birth and get an appointment.

He stated that Health Minister Stephen Donnelly will be bringing more details regarding the portal forward in the next few weeks.

On the topic, Minister O'Brien called the next few months "crucial" for Ireland.

He told Claire Byrne: "We are getting more doses — Significantly more. We will, in the month of April, will (receive) 860,000 to 900,000 (doses). It will be over one million in May.

"By the end of next week, a million vaccines will have been administered in this country.

"In April/May, we'll be averaging a million a month. It's a game-changer."
