Coronavirus Ireland: No deaths as six new cases announced

Some six new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed by health officials today.

The total number of infections now stands at  25,766.

Additionally no further deaths have been announced as the death toll stands at 1,753.

Of the 270 cases reported to the HPSC over the past two weeks:

  • 43% are male while 57% are female
  • The median age is 34 years old. Additionally 69% of the cases are under 45 years of age
  • Dublin has the highest number of cases at 55% followed by Kildare at 10% and Cork at 6%. The rest of the counties were at 5% or less
  • 21% of the cases were travel related

Dr Ronan Glynn said: "We are now seeing outbreaks of the virus in a range of work settings, including in construction, in fast food outlet, and in supermarkets.

"We can't underestimate how quickly clusters develop. We have come so far together, but we need to stay vigilant to prevent a resurgance across the wholke country in the coming weeks.

"Many workplaces have introduced the new regimes and safety measures necessary to reopen their businesses. I would remind all employers thgat the workplace and particularly shops, services and supermarket, are the new front line, we are asking you to do everything you can put to the safety of your staff and customers first.

"With the increase in outbreaks in our communities, I would urge everyone to wear face coverings in healthcare settings and when shopping, including in the supermarket and other indoor retail services."
