Coronavirus Ireland news: Hospitals with most cases as HSE records increase in hospitalised patients

The HSE has recorded a slight increase in hospitalised coronavirus patients despite the number of new daily cases gradually declining.

The latest graphs show that Ireland has flattened the curve in the fight against Covid-19.

But figures gathered by the health service show that there is still nearly 1,000 cases - confirmed or suspected - of the virus in hospitals.

As of 8pm on Monday, five Dublin hospitals accounted for more than half of the 680 confirmed cases which were hospitalised.

Beaumont - 65

St Vincent's - 63

The hospitals outside of Dublin with the most cases on Monday night were:

Limerick - 48

Mayo - 33

Tullamore - 22

Letterkenny - 20

Naas - 18

The number of hospitalised patients with suspected Covid-19 stood at 331 at 8am on Monday - but this figure dropped to 247 by 8pm.

The worst-hit hospitals were Limerick with 29, Letterkenny with 26 and St James's with 21.

There were 1,281 free general hospital beds on Monday, with 132 vacant critical care beds.

On Monday evening, it was announced a further 16 people have died from Covid-19.

The latest figures brought the death toll to 1,319 and the total number of cases in the Republic of Ireland to 21,772.
