Coronavirus Ireland: New interactive map shows exact location of cases in every town

The Government has released a new interactive map showing the exact locations of coronavirus cases in every town in Ireland.

A new Covid-19 data hub includes a breakdown of confirmed infections right down to a local electoral division level.

The interactive map shows how many cases are in each area, along with the population of the region.

It also offers a calculation of the number of confirmed cases per 100k, so that regions of different sizes can be roughly compared.

The statistics make clear that Dublin was the epicentre of the outbreak in Ireland, accounting for nearly half of all positive tests here.

However the Government stresses that the figures are based on the total number of cases since the pandemic began, and that most will have already fully recovered within the expected 14-day period.

Also, any areas that have less than five confirmed infections in total will not give an exact figure.

The full breakdown of cases in every Electoral Division is available on the Government's Covid-19 Data Hub website HERE.

It comes after it was announced last night that four more people have died from coronavirus in Ireland.

A further 16 cases of the disease were also confirmed on Friday evening.

The development takes the number of people who have died of Covid-19 here to 1,714.

The total number of confirmed cases is now 25,355.

Validation of data at the HPSC has resulted in the denotification of three confirmed cases. The figure of 25,355 confirmed cases reflects this.

The HSE is working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread.

Data from the HPSC, as of midnight, Tuesday 16 June (25,399 cases), shows that:

  • 57% are female and 43% are male

  • the median age of confirmed cases is 48 years

  • 3,282 cases (13%) have been hospitalised

  • Of those hospitalised, 417 cases have been admitted to ICU

  • 8,147 cases are associated with healthcare workers

  • Dublin has the highest number of cases at 12,239 (48% of all cases) followed by Cork with 1,535 cases (6%) and then Kildare with 1,436 cases (6%)

  • Of those for whom transmission status is known: community transmission accounts for 37%, close contact accounts for 61%, travel abroad accounts for 2%

Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said: “The National Public Health Emergency Team met on Thursday and noted that approximately half of those diagnosed with COVID-19 in the community take more than two days from the onset of symptoms to make contact with their GP.

“The most important actions anyone can take from the moment they experience symptoms associated with COVID-19 is to self-isolate immediately, restrict the movement of household contacts and make phone contact with their GP.”
