Coronavirus Ireland latest as no new figures expected due to HSE attack and system shutdown

The daily Covid cases and deaths will not be released today due to HSE system problems.

Usually the number of new confirmed cases and deaths for the previous 24 hours would be released between 5pm and 7pm.

But due to IT issues as a result of the major cyber-attack on Friday, no such release will be given today.

A spokesperson for the Department said: "Due to the current disruption of the HSE IT systems daily Covid-19 figures are not available. Backdated figures will be published when possible."

Meanwhile, Dr Ronan Glynn has praised the efforts of those living in Donegal and Kildare to reduce the number of new cases in the counties.

In their most recent report, the HSPC showed that Kidare's 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 stood at 253.5 while Donegal's was slightly lower at 248.8.

However, while the Deputy CMO said that people living in and visiting those two counties should exercise a degree of caution, improvements have been made in Kildare and Donegal, especially in terms of reducing the spread of disease.

Dr Glynn said: "Obviously, there was one particularly large significant outbreak at Intel in Kildare, but there have been a number of other outbreaks in Kildare over recent weeks. However, things do appear to be coming under control there. Although the county has the second-highest incidence in the country, based on the incidence reporting today, it is an improving situation there.

"Aside from Intel, there was a small number of other workplace outbreaks in Kildare. There was a number of outbreaks characterised as school outbreaks and the vast majority of those have come under control. In broad terms, it's just playing itself out. We would expect the incidence to decrease over the coming few weeks."
