Ireland star James McClean has donated protective equipment to frontline workers n fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Stoke City winger responded to an online appeal by purchasing hand sanitisers and personal protective equipment to Altnagelvin Hospital in his home county of Derry.
Nicola Duffy - a GP at the hospital's Covid-19 centre - told BBC Talkback how McClean organised a 'large donation' through Amazon.
“I don’t know the chap but I just received an email from somebody advising me that he has bought kit and it’s being sent to Great James Street Health Centre, which is our practise.
“He has purchased equipment and sanitisers which will be coming in the next week or two."
Dr Duffy organised the appeal and revealed that McClean's donation was part of a strong response so far to assist frontline professionals.
“We put this up yesterday afternoon and people have dropped up stuff to my front door, people have dropped stuff to the health centre.
"It’s creating a conversation and people are using their own resources to think where can we get it.
“At the minute, my house seems to be a bit of a depot!”
McClean, 30, made a donation last month to provide vital supplies for people in Derry City.
He was also one of a number of Ireland internationals to donate €25,000 to League of Ireland players - with games currently postponed and some clubs unable to play players as a result.
The Creggan native was recently fined two weeks wages by Stoke and apologised over a controversial Instagram post in which he wore a balaclava.
