Coronavirus Ireland: Irish funeral home ask people to do one thing if they see a hearse to help families

An Irish funeral home is asking the public to do one small thing to help families mourn during the current crisis.

With mass gatherings banned, those who lose loved ones are having to have tiny funerals with most people unable to pay their respects.

This has been a source of great sadness for many families across Ireland but one funeral home has asked people to try and help out with this.

While people can't go to removals or funeral masses, they can pay their respects if they see a hearse passing on the road.

Fitzgerald's Funeral Home in Dublin want people to pause and bow their heads if they see a body being carried through the streets to show the family they are with them.

They said in a Facebook post: "Could I ask everyone for some help at this very difficult time....Paying Our Respects.

"If you see a hearse, could you stop, stand for a moment as it passes, perhaps take off your cap, and bow your head?

"In these times where funerals are limited to only a very few close family our chance to support people during bereavement is limited. So, we wondered if we could revive an old tradition that would show people that their loss is noticed and shared by us all?

"It would mean the world to families in a time of sadness."

The post has since been shared more than 1,000 times with many praising the idea and saying they too will try and pay their respects next time the opportunity arises.
