Coronavirus Ireland: Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy in self-isolation after travelling abroad

Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy has placed himself in quarantine after visiting friends abroad.

Mr Murphy is believed to have taken the decision himself to self-isolate and is showing no signs or symptoms of coronavirus.

The minister is understood to have made the move as a precaution and has kept himself away from others at home.

He did not attend yesterday’s Cabinet meeting where his proposals to ban evictions and rent hikes during the coronavirus emergency were approved.

And he appeared on RTE’s Six One last night through a video call to speak about them.

A spokesman for Minister Murphy confirmed to the Irish Mirror that he is in self-quarantine, and has been for a week.

He said: "Minister Murphy is self-isolating since last week as a precaution after returning from visiting family abroad.

"He travelled before any travel advice was issued.

"He has maintained a full work schedule via phone and teleconference like many across the country at the moment.

"He has not been in direct physical contact with any colleagues."
