Coronavirus Ireland: Home hairdressing takes off during Covid-19 lockdown

Hairy householders are increasingly being forced to develop a new skill during the coronavirus lockdown: hairdressing.

With barber shops and hair salons forced to shut their doors, more and more people have no option but to style their hair at home.

And unsurprisingly, the advent of home hair salons has led to a massive demand for grooming products and electrical hair devices.

Boots Ireland, which sells around 30 such products including electric hair clippers, beard trippers and other multi-functional grooming kits from leading brands like Phlips, Wahl, Remington and Braun, had nothing left in stock on its online store yesterday.

The products, some of which cost over €100, were either listed is out of stock for the next two weeks, or as “sold out and not receiving further stock”.

Similarly, other pharmacies across the country have seen a run on their electric clippers and male hair grooming products.

Sam McCauley’s outlet in Greystones, Co Wicklow, said it had no such products left on its shelves yesterday, after electric clippers were “flying off the shelves”.
