Coronavirus Ireland: Helpline launched to help farmers with queries about COVID-19 outbreak

A new helpline has been launched for farmers who may have queries amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed announced that the new phone helpline will aim to assist farmer with an questions they have about the current restrictions in place across the country due to COVID-19.

Under the latest restrictions implemented by the government people have been told to stay at home in all circumstances except for limited situations.

One of those includes travelling to and from work where the work is considered an essential service.

Farming and fishing are both considered essential services.

The helpline aims to answer any queries farmers may have about the Covid-19 restrictions (Rex (Stock))

This extends to farmers, farm labourers, farm relief service workers and others involved directly or indirectly in crop and animal production and related activities (including veterinary services), and workers involved in fishing.

Speaking on the announcement Mr Creed said: "My Department is fully engaged with the whole of Government response to COVID-19.

"I have now put in place a dedicated helpline for farmers to seek advice on the practical queries that they may have as they continue to fulfil their essential role in maintaining the food supply chain.

"This helpline aims to assist farmers in addressing the challenges they may face on a day to day basis.”

The information line phone number is 076 1064468 and will be open from 9.30am to 12.30pm and from 2pm to 5pm Monday to Friday.

In addition, the Department has also published a set of Frequently Asked Questions on the Coronavirus /COVID 19 section of the Department’s website here.
