Coronavirus Ireland: Government 'to announce ban on evictions during Covid-19 crisis'

The Government is set to announce a temporary ban on evictions while the coronavirus crisis is ongoing, it has emerged.

It's understood the ban will be in place for an initial three month period.

The new laws to help struggling renters will be announced by Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy, RTE reports.

It's also reported that politicians are also considering temporarily banning rent increases for those whose jobs have been impacted by Covid-19.

It's believed the measures were discussed by the Cabinet on Thursday morning.
