Coronavirus Ireland: Google to publish your location data to help policing of government restrictions

Google will publish the location data of users to help police social distancing and see areas that aren't compliant with current restrictions.

Those who have their google locations enabled have been helping the company compile the data which is now produced in a report.

The company said: "Google prepared this report to help you and public health officials understand responses to social distancing guidance related to COVID-19.

"This report shouldn’t be used for medical diagnostic, prognostic, or treatment purposes. It also isn’t intended to be used for guidance on personal travel plans.

"Location accuracy and the understanding of categorized places varies from region to region, so we don’t recommend using this data to compare changes between countries, or between regions with different characteristics (e.g. rural versus urban areas)."

The data is compiled on a county by county basis so your exact location and what you've been up to won't be released.

But if the entire county of Carlow is out and about however, the reports will pick that up and stats will reflect that.

On March 29, Google data shows that people at retail and recreation spots has dropped by 83% in Ireland as of March 29th.

The amount of people visiting grocery and pharmacy shops is down by 37% and the use of parks is down 59%.

Transit stations are down 78%, workplaces are down 52% and those staying at residential properties are up 19%.
