Coronavirus Ireland good news: The promising sign measures are working, vaccine 'head start' and Italy decline

It's mostly doom and gloom surrounding the coronavirus at the moment but there's always reasons to be positive.

Here at the Irish Mirror we are picking out some good news in regards the Covid-19 crisis each day to keep you optimistic about the future.

The following are just a few good updates from the last 24 hours to keep you going;

Positive Ireland signs

It was predicted earlier this month that Ireland would have 15,000 coronavirus cases by the end of March.

This was factoring in a 30% increase in confirmed Covid-19 cases each day starting from March 18 - with the potential for over 100,000 cases by April 10 if the curve wasn't flattened.

However, the average daily growth since March 18 has been 24% which has already seen a considerable change in graph predictions.

Instead of heading into April 1 with over 11,000 cases, Ireland would be on a little over 7,000.

Fast forward to April 10 and instead of having 121,000 plus cases here in the Republic if a 30% increase was to continue, a 24% daily rise would see a little over 49,000 cases.

Vaccine 'head start'

There is reason to be optimistic regarding a Covid-19 vaccine with most of the world's scientists concentrating on the saviour drug - giving us a head start compared to usual timelines.

Four potential vaccines are already being tested on animals with one set to go to human testing imminently.

There is also the plus that vaccinologists had hedged their bets that if there was to be a global pandemic it would likely be in the flu family.

As a result there has been research going on for years into having a vaccine ready should such a situation occur - so let's hope it helps speed up the process.

Italy decline

Italy is the epicentre of the virus at the moment and the number of deaths continues to surge each day.

However, in some much needed positive news there, case numbers have been declining for the past four days.

Over 7,500 people have died in the European country but with a decline in cases it is hoped that Italy is overcoming the worst period.
