Coronavirus Ireland good news: Monster €550,000 raised to feed frontline workers in just two weeks

A national fundraising effort to feed Ireland’s heroic frontline healthcare workers has raised a massive €550,000 in just two weeks, it emerged on Tuesday.

Feed The Heroes is a campaign to provide the country’s dedicated men and women with nutritious meals during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The initiative partners with restaurants and takeaways, caterers and commercial kitchens to prepare and deliver the food to the frontline teams.

During the last 14 days more than 18,500 meals have been delivered nationwide.

So far meals have been delivered to staff at the Covid-19 testing centres, HSE contact tracing, the National Ambulance Service and the Fire Brigade as well as hospital workers.

Feed The Heroes founder, Cian O’Flaherty said: “We have been completely blown away by the response of the Irishpeople.

“They have transformed what began as an ambition to raise €1,000 to buy a few meals into a national operation that to date has delivered more than 18,500 meals to critical frontline workers nationwide.

“More than 11,300 Irish people have contributed to Feed The Heroes from a seven year old donating €5 of their pocket money to a €20,000 donation from Republic of Ireland international and Everton football player, Seamus Coleman.

“Every single euro makes a difference.”
