Coronavirus Ireland: Generosity shines as thousands raised in support of healthcare workers and struggling artists

Ireland is known for its generosity during difficult times and it's no different during the coronavirus pandemic.

Already we are the most generous country in the world on online fundraising platform GoFundMe.

And now we've come out in our thousands to support campaigns including providing food for our frontline healthcare workers and donating in support of artists who have lost their income overnight.

There's also been funds set up in aid of charity events that were forced to cancel due to the COVID-19 crisis, and for hospitals that are overwhelmed as the number of infected patients begins to rise.

More than 25 campaigns have been launched in March in aid of those who are effected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Among the most popular is the Feed the Heroes campaign, which has raised almost €80,000 and the Artist Emergency Relief Fund which has raised over €20,000.

GoFundMe International Director John Coventry said:“While the spread of the Coronavirus has brought uncertainty and concern to many communities - the early signs are that people are already coming together to make sure that health workers, people in less secure jobs and those who may have to self-isolate are looked after.

"It's incredible to see people coming together already to do incredible things in the face of this unprecedented situation."

People are helping where possible by visiting www.gofundme.com and showing support with a donation to support those impacted.
