Coronavirus Ireland: Gavin James thanks fans as self-isolation gig raises €10,000 for Alone Ireland

Irish singer Gavin James has raised €10,000 for charity by performing an online concert while in self-isolation.

The Always hitmaker took to Instagram on Thursday evening to thank his fans who generously donated to Alone Ireland - which works with isolated elderly people as well as the homeless.

In a time when so many are staying indoors due to the coronavirus crisis, the Dubliner was aiming to lift spirits by throwing on a virtual gig for a worthwhile cause.

In an online post, he said: "Hey everybody thank you very much for tuning in. You are all f**king amazing. We raised so far, just on Facebook, €10,000 for Alone Ireland which is amazing."

He added: "I just want to thank the lads. Mr Collin down the back for doing all the sound, he's well prepared with the mask. Smashed it.

"We're all socially apart from each other, in general as people. Thank you very much for watching and thank you very much for donating.

"€10,000 is amazing. We actually crashed the Alone Ireland website which is amazing so thank you very much everybody!"
