Coronavirus Ireland: FAI football activity ban extended until April 19

The ban on all football activity under the FAI’s jurisdiction has been extended to April 19.

It had been in lockdown until March 29 because of the Covid-19 crisis but that was always subject to review.

The League of Ireland will still be under lock and key until June 19 at the earliest.

An FAI statement read: “The decision to extend a deadline for the return to football has been taken in light of the ever-growing threat posed by the COVID-19 outbreak.

“This decision will continue to be monitored on an ongoing basis.”

And it continued: “The association remains committed to a June return for the SSE Airtricity League.

“Regular meetings are ongoing with representatives from the National League Executive Committee and the Professional Footballers Association of Ireland.”

Meanwhile, FAI medical director Dr Alan Byrne has again urged clubs not to engage in collective training.
