Coronavirus Ireland: Eerie pictures show Ireland's busiest roads near-deserted during rush hour

Stricter measures were introduced in Ireland on Tuesday with the majority of people now working from home.

The coronavirus pandemic has effectively shut the world down with weeks and maybe even months of more measures to come.

With the announcement that non-essential workers are to work from home, we checked out traffic cams all over Ireland just before 9am this morning to see how many were out.

And it looks as though people really are taking this seriously with even the busiest of roads near-deserted.

Here's scenes from some of Ireland's main roads this morning;

Dublin M50 south tunnel

The usually busy tunnel in Dublin has little to no movement in or out this morning.

M7 Portlaoise Bypass

Normally one of the busiest commuter routes in the country, but at 9am there was barely a car to be seen.

M1 by Balbriggan

The M1 is another usually thronged road but today it's looking pretty empty - you wouldn't have any delays heading into work.

M8 in Cork

Generally traffic would be flying on the M8 but traffic is scarce this morning.

N24 by Pallas Green in Limerick

Over in Limerick roads are similarly quiet, you won't have many traffic jams out there today.

M6 Ballinasloe, Galway

The usual Galway commuters are similarly staying at home with no traffic on the roads.

N25 Cork

One of the most troublesome roads in Cork usually is free-flowing this morning.

M9 Kilcullen, Kildare

Usually one of the busiest commuter routes as people from all over the south-east head to Dublin - this morning you could barely find one car.
