Coronavirus Ireland: Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard plead with people to take care on the water and remind them that "the Covid-19 emergency is not over"

The Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard have pleaded with people to take care on the water and reminded them that "the Covid-19 emergency is not over".

They said callouts have picked up over the last three days, and they have urged the public to tread especially carefully on the water as the country enters Phase One of it's lockdown lift

They said: "It has been a busy few days with callouts, today alone we had 3 callouts that we responded to which involved kayakers, paddle boarders and a liferaft.

"It’s important to remember that the Covid-19 emergency is not over and that you are only permitted to take up exercise within a 5km radius of your home.

"If the sea is within your 5km and you intend going out on the water, please make sure to wear appropriate clothing and lifejackets where necessary.

"While the weather is hot and sunny, the water at this time of the year remains cold. Plan accordingly and check the weather and tides.

"Lifeguards are not yet back on our beaches until June bank holiday weekend. Remember, if you see anyone in difficult in or near the water, please dial 112/999 and ask for the Coast Guard."
