Coronavirus Ireland: Dublin school cluster panic as five cases confirmed all in one class

Five coronavirus cases have been confirmed in one year at a school in north Dublin.

Several urgent letters were sent to parents at the secondary school informing them of the infections.

All the cases were notified to parents and guardians within the last week.

The first incident was reported last Monday, while a second letter was sent on Thursday confirming another case.

And finally on Friday the school confirmed that three further children had tested positive.

It is understood that all the cases occurred in pupils in the same year.

The school remains open as normal for students who were not close contacts of the confirmed cases.

The latest letter reads: "A public health risk assessment has been undertaken and the parents of any students deemed to be close contacts of the confirmed case have been contacted and advised accordingly.

"If your child has not been notified as a close contact at this time, your child does not need a test for Covid-19, they can continue to attend school and no further actions are required at this time."

Parents were also warned to keep a close eye on any children who might develop symptoms, and to contact their GP for a test if necessary.
