Coronavirus Ireland: Dublin restaurant offering free meals to homeless people during Covid-19 crisis

A Dublin restaurant is doing its part to help the most vulnerable in our society during the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.

Mams Indian Restaurant in Tallaght has promised free meals to homeless people in the area while the coronavirus crisis runs its course.

They made the announcement on Wednesday, when Independent councillor for Dublin City Central Anthony Flynn, slammed the lack of service provisions in place for homeless during the Covid-19 outbreak, Dublin Live reports.

Mams Indian said: "Please do not hesitate to come to us for a free meal while everything is (on) lockdown due to coronavirus.

"We will serve free food until we can overcome this coronavirus situation."

Earlier today, it was announced that over 350 new living spaces would be given to Dublin homeless services as tourist bookings plunged.

A total of 357 properties - 160 self-contained apartments and 197 ensuite hotel rooms - are being designated to families and individuals in need of shelter.

Eileen Gleeson, Director of the Dublin Region Homeless Executive (DRHE), and Brendan Kenny, Assistant Chief Executive of Dublin City Council made the announcement to Dublin city councillors, saying the new accommodation was the result of "very significant changes in the private property market."
