Coronavirus Ireland: Dublin grandad-of-10 John McGroddy named as latest tragic victim

The latest victim to die from coronavirus has been named as Dublin native John McGroddy.

The 82-year-old passed away on Sunday after testing positive for the killer virus just a few days previous.

The victim, a dad-of-five and granddad-of-ten from the Sheephaven area of Swords, is sadly missed by his wife Nell.

He died peacefully at Tara Winthrop Private Clinic after a short battle with the killer Covid-19 bug, Dublin Live reports.

A death notice on RIP.ie for John reads: "Beloved father-in-law of the late Phil; sadly missed by his loving wife Nell, sons Dominic, Jake and Sean, daughters Úna and Kate, son-in-law Eugene, daughters-in-law Lily, Aisling and Heidi, grandchildren Eoghan, Grainne, Aideen, Ellie, Sean, Jake, Katie, Aaron, Aoife and Aodhrai, his siblings Winnie, Michael and Bernadette, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

"Due to government advice regarding public gatherings, a private immediate family only funeral will take place. A memorial service for John will be held at a later date.

"Those who wish to attend the funeral but cannot due to current restrictions, please leave your personal message in the 'Condolences' section below."

This comes after news that the number of coronavirus cases in Ireland has risen to over 3,000.

A further 17 people sadly died from Covid-19, it was confirmed yesterday. Overall, 71 people have died from the virus.

Health officials have said that there have been 325 new cases, bringing the total to 3,235.

There were six deaths confirmed in Northern Ireland on Tuesday also, bringing the total number of deaths in the north to 28.

Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, commented: “Our strategy remains the implementation of public health restrictions to interrupt the spread of the virus and prevent people from arriving to ICU in first place.”
