Coronavirus Ireland: Dublin GAA star Siobhan Killeen shares important message after testing positive for Covid-19

Dublin GAA star Siobhan Killeen has stressed the importance of social distancing after testing positive for coronavirus.

The 27-year-old is a radiographer at Dublin's Mater Hospital, and is one of thousands of heroic healthcare workers at the frontline in the battle against the virus across the country.

She first experienced symptoms last Sunday evening and was tested on Monday before receiving confirmation she had been infected with the virus on Tuesday.

Killeen told Morning Ireland on RTE Radio One: "When I became unwell on Sunday and rang into work sick I was already thinking of a list [of people I had been in contact with] because I had come into contact with people in work as well as outside.

"I had already thought about my list and luckily enough, because of social distancing and obeying everything that was recommended my list was very small.

"My message for people would be to keep that in mind, when you're thinking of what do to with your day or whether to go out and see someone or do something, think if you were to get that call that no one wants, that you're positive and you have to isolate and give a list of people you have potentially transmitted the virus to, would you be embarrassed or ashamed of the list if it was a long list, or had people who were vulnerable.

"Keep that list to a minimum like I did and I am quite happy when I got that call I was not overly worried about people I had put at risk."

The former Republic of Ireland football international added: "I’m doing fine. I took a turn on Sunday evening, I got the sweats in the sitting room after working that morning, and a really bad headache.

"Up until that point, I was really well, really busy in work but quite active as well.

"I went for a run on the previous Friday, had a training session on my own on the Saturday, and a cycle after work on Sunday morning.

"I felt good, it wasn’t like my energy levels were low. On Sunday evening, I took a turn for the worse, and became unwell.

"That lasted all through the night, aches in my legs that travelled to my back.

"I never really got respiratory symptoms, I didn’t have difficulty breathing, a sore throat or cough.

"It was the sweats and headache and while, looking back, I may have coughed once or twice over the weekend, it was nothing out of the ordinary."
