Dublin GAA star Michael Darragh MacAuley took to Twitter to attempt to find out if his 92-year-old aunt is the oldest practicing doctor in the country.
The seven-time All-Ireland winner posed the question, tweeting: "Question: My auntie is a practicing doctor at 92 years young, trying to establish if she’s the oldest working doc in the country?"
The tweet quickly went viral and Twitter users hailed MacAuley's Rathfarnham-based aunt as an inspiration.
Former Dublin ace Vinnie Murphy replied: "WOW, what a woman, bravo."
Another follower of MacAuley remarked: "If not the oldest definitely the bravest."
Fine Gael TD Neale Richmond said: "Many of us in Rathfarnham were/are lucky to have her as our GP."
While Twitter user Lisa Cooke noted: "She's an incredible woman!!!! Even if you think back to when she trained as a doctor it was a difficult profession for women to get into!!! Amazing!!"
MacAuley's Dublin teammate Jack McCaffrey is a doctor by trade at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny, and has been adding his voice to the conversation around Covid-19 in recent weeks.
In a video message recorded by Dublin GAA earlier this month, the 26-year-old told how he shaved his beard to protect 'staff and patients while we're dealing with the new Covid-19 disease'.
He added: "The reason for this video is that I'm just looking to ask that everybody else continue to do their bit to help out with that as well.
"Whether it be washing your hands coming in and out of the house, whether that be avoiding public gatherings, I just want to thank everybody who has been helping so far and emphasise how important they are.
"Please, please, please do continue to follow those instructions and thank you very much."
