Coronavirus Ireland Dublin cases: Exact parts of the city with highest rates of COVID-19

The northside of Dublin is the worst hit by COVID-19 with some areas recording almost four times as many infections than the southside.

The latest figures from the Health Protection and Surveillance Centre reveal that the Dublin North area reported the highest number of cases in the 14 days up to midnight on September 9 with 195.

Dublin South had the lowest rate of infection with just 50 cases reported.

The figures cover cases recorded at the HSE's eight local health offices in the capital.

The Dublin North office stretches from Balbriggan to Howth and includes the likes of Malahide, Portmarnock, Swords, Rush and Artane.

Dublin South includes Dun Laoghaire, Blackrock, Stillorgan and Loughlinstown.

The North West office, which covers the Dublin 7, 11 and 15 areas, recorded the second highest rate of infection with 174.

The Dublin North Central area reported 102 cases of the virus.

Dublin South West, which serves Crumlin, Walkinstown, Drimnagh and Tallaght, reported 128 cases while there were 115 in Dublin West.

Dublin South East, stretching from Sandymount to Sandyford, reported 116 cases and had the highest incidence rate of 93.8.

There were 106 cases in Dublin South City, which stretches from the inner city to Ballyfermot.

The lowest incidence rate of 36.7 is in Dublin South  but remains alarmingly high across all regions of the city.

A further 121 cases of the killer virus were confirmed in the capital earlier this evening.

Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn urged people to severely limit their social contacts this weekend as health chiefs battle to get the disease back under control in the capital.

He said: “While we are seeing a continued increase in cases, particularly in Dublin, this is at least partly due to the willingness of people to heed our core messages around knowing the symptoms and coming forward promptly for testing.

"This together with all of the other key behaviours will help to break the chains of transmission in our communities.

“This weekend, please limit your social contacts, especially visitors to your home. Avoid crowds, keep your distance from others and wear a face covering where appropriate.”
