Coronavirus Ireland: Dublin 4 community behind viral social distancing bingo video stick together while staying apart

Flat complexes across Dublin city are thinking up new and creative ways to bond as a community - while keeping to social distancing guidelines.

A video of a social distancing safe game of bingo in the Canon Mooney Gardens Flat Complex in Ringsend went viral on Friday.

And now the rest of the community in Ringsend and Irishtown are planning to get on board, with some brilliant and safe activities planned.

Whelan and O’Rahilly House on Thorncastle Street will hold a talent show today Sunday March 22 from 2-4pm and George Reynold’s House in Irishtown will hold bingo from 5-7pm.

The Ringsend and Irishtown Community Centre has been providing equipment for the activities, and also operating an outreach programme since news of the pandemic surfaced.

They have been delivering free dinners to the older community, provided by Avolon Aircraft Leasing, Artizan Food and Joanne’s The Bridge Café and checking in on those who are isolated and maintaining an online presence with baking and poetry competitions.

Lorraine Barry, Manager of RICC said: "I’m so humbled and proud of our community who have shown their solidarity during this trying time and we want our community to know that the centre and its wonderful staff are on hand to support our community in any way that we can.

"So we are urging people who may have any further creative ideas to keep us connected in a safe way, whilst adhering to social distancing, to get in touch.”
