Coronavirus Ireland: Deaths reach 19 on island of Ireland as North confirms three more people have died

Three more people have died and 32 new positive cases have been confirmed this afternoon in the North of Ireland.

This brings the total number of deaths on the island of Ireland to 19 with nine in the south and 10 in the north.

The total number of confirmed cases in the north now stands at 241 with a further 1,564 in the Republic making 1805 the figure for the island of Ireland.

A briefing will take place at 6pm this evening where the latest Republic of Ireland figures will be announced.

Meanwhile health officials in Ireland have confirmed that people will now have to display two major symptoms in order to be tested for the coronavirus, according to new rules.

Covid-19 patients must have a fever and either a cough or shortness of breath, or fall into a priority group, if they are to be tested.

The priority group relates to healthcare staff, vulnerable groups and contacts of a confirmed case.
