Coronavirus Ireland: Daughter's touching tribute to nurse mum who died from Covid-19 in Drogheda, Co Louth

The daughter of a nurse who died in Ireland after contracting the coronavirus hailed her "beautiful, kind and loving" mum.

Beena George, 58, who worked at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogehda, Co Louth, passed away over the weekend after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

Her family said Beena was being treated for stage-four cancer before she tested positive for the virus.

And her heartbroken daughter Anmi paid a heartfelt tribute to her mum who sadly died on Sunday morning.

She said: "My beautiful mother Beena passed away today. She was fighting stage 4 cancer and due to other complications she sadly didn’t make it.

"As anyone who has had the luck of being acquainted with her will let you know, she was kind, loving and a blessing in all of our lives.

"She always gave out the best advice and was there for anyone who needed her, no matter what.

"May her memories live on through the people who knew her."

Early on Sunday morning, her caring husband Paul broke the news and asked the public to pray for her.

He said: "With profound grief and sorrow I share the news that my wife Beena passed away peacefully around 6.30 this morning at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

"She was undergoing treatment for stage-4 cancer and eventually tested Covid-19 positive. Pray for her."

Local councillor Paul Bell also paid tribute to the Indian native for the work she has done in the community.

He wrote online: "Dear Citizens it is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Beena George a committed health professional serving her community as a Nurse in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

"Beena fell victim to the Covid-19 virus on Sunday last giving rise to great sadness amongst her family, friends and comrades.

"May I also pass on my deepest condolences on behalf of the citizens of Drogheda and my own behalf to Beena’s husband and all members of the local Indian community. We all owe so much to Beena for her commitment to saving life while risking her own.

"A huge sacrifice in the giving and preserving of our lives. May Beena rest in peace. In honour of Beena and all health workers we must work harder together to beat COVID 19. Only together can we beat this."
