Coronavirus Ireland: Covid-19 outbreak fear at Dublin Prison as new prisoner struck with virus

A Dublin prison has been hit with a coronavirus outbreak fear after it has emerged that a new prisoner has been hit with the deadly virus.

The young man in his 20s - who is being held in custody in Cloverhill Prison on charges of assault - received the positive test yesterday, Dublin Live can reveal.

This is the third case of Covid-19 in Cloverhill since the pandemic started with the new committal now in isolation and quarantining for 14 days.

A source told Dublin Live: "The man was tested on September 6 for the virus.

"The test came back yesterday (September 11) and the result was positive.

"He is a new prisoner and it's unsure how many close contacts he will have had and who else this will affect."

The source added: "He's now in isolation and will be quarantining for two weeks from when he received the result."

A spokesman for the Irish Prison Service told Dublin Live: "Confirmations of Covid cases is a matter for the HSE and NPHET."
