Coronavirus Ireland county cases: Dublin sees big jump in Covid-19 infections over last 24 hours

Dublin saw a big jump in coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours, new figures show.

The capital reported 21 new cases of Covid-19 according to the latest statistics released by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

All other counties combined for a total of just 15 new cases.

The second biggest change was seen in Meath, which recorded a further five infections.

The latest county-by-county data covers the period up to midnight on Monday, July 20.

It comes after 17 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 were announced by the Department of Health last night.

While sadly the virus has claimed one more life in the Republic of Ireland.

There have now been a total of 1,754 Covid-19 related deaths here.

The total number of infections in the Republic has now risen to 25,819.

Dr Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, has urged the public to follow the guidelines to protect the country's healthcare workers.

He said: “I appreciate how difficult it is for people to limit their social activities and to physically distance from friends and loved ones.

“These actions are vital to our collective effort to suppress this highly infectious disease as we work towards reopening our schools and our healthcare services, and to protect our healthcare workers who have been at the frontline of this pandemic over the past six months.”
