Coronavirus Ireland: Counties and areas to receive 'grades' in new Covid-19 plan

A new five-level plan will see different restrictions apply to different parts of the country.

The Cabinet's Covid-19 sub-committee met last night to finalise the plans for Ireland's medium-term strategy.

The new framework is set to be published on Tuesday.

There are going to be five levels in the new plan to represent the varying degrees of restrictions, RTE News reports.

Level One will be the lowest while Level Five will be the most serious, which would possibly see lockdown measures reimposed.

Different measures will be applied for social gatherings, work, sport and travel at each level.

The exact restrictions at each stage will be made clear when the list is published.

There will be a score for the nation as a whole, as well as a score for particular counties or areas.

The biggest factor that will determine the level of restrictions in each area will be the 14-day confirmed case incidence rate per 100,000 population.

Ireland is also set to join the European Commission's new international travel system that will colour-code countries and regions.

Countries will be graded red, amber and green depending on the number of coronavirus cases.

Similar to the Government's current Green List, travellers from "green" countries will not need to quarantine for 14 days.
