Coronavirus Ireland: Could I unknowingly have Covid-19? Differences between flu, cold and dreaded virus

Coronavirus numbers in the Republic of Ireland have now grown to 70 confirmed cases including one death.

Those numbers are expected to grow in the coming days as Ireland enters the delay phase of the emergency response.

Many people who are feeling in any way sick will be slightly worried that maybe they could have the virus - despite not being out of the country.

They have been warned in the UK that as many as 10,000 people could have the coronavirus without knowing.

In the Republic of Ireland there has thus far been two cases of community transmission - meaning that they were unable to trace where the case came from.

How to protect yourself against the coronavirus

With this in mind it is highly possible that there are other cases of the coronavirus out there that have not been detecetd.

ANd if you are sick and worried  you may have it, here is some helpful advice on what the symptoms are.

A dry cough and a temperature are two of the main features of the coronavirus although commonly feature when you have the flu as well.

What should you do if you think you have it?

The HSE says you will need to be tested for coronavirus if you have  symptoms  and have in the last 14 days been:

Your doctor may also suggest you are tested for coronavirus if you have a severe lung infection.

If your doctor thinks that you need a test for coronavirus, they will tell you where the test will be done. They will also tell you when to expect your results.
